Installation Steps
Step 1: Dust Shoe Removal
- Locate the dust shoe assembly. The dust shoe is attached upside down to the assembly for better protection during shipping.
- Loosen the two thumbscrews and remove the dust shoe part.
- Keep the dust shoe aside until you're ready to use the AutoDustBoot. You can operate the AutoDustBoot without the dust shoe initially to observe its functionality and ensure everything is working correctly.
Step 2: Preparing the CNC Machine
- With the machine powered on, move the XY-gantry to a position where you can easily access the top of the Z-gantry.
- Move the spindle height just past the top of the Z-gantry where two screws are installed.

Step 3: Removing Screws from the Z-gantry
- Using the included 2mm hex driver, remove the two screws from the top of the Z-gantry.
- Ensure the hex driver is securely inserted to avoid stripping the screws as they are tightly secured.

Step 4: Installing the Leg Supports
- Attach the leg supports on the right and left sides of the Z-gantry. The right support has a bearing on it.
- Place the leg supports all the way to the bottom of the Z-gantry slots.
- Use the included M3x25mm bolts and the 2.5mm hex driver to secure the rod supports.

Step 5: Sliding the Top Assembly
- Depending on the available space, slide the top assembly of the AutoDustBoot. If the space is tight, temporarily remove the spindle cable.
- Slide the top assembly onto the Z-gantry and align it with the previously installed leg supports.
- Use the included M3x12mm screws and the 2.5mm hex driver. Tighten enough to secure but avoid overtightening.

Step 6: Controller Integration
- Click here for Masso G3 Instruction.
Step 7: Operating the AutoDustBoot
- When AutoDustBoot powerup, it will start with a slow homing sequence to determine the maximum retraction point.
- Rotate the control knob clockwise to move the AutoDustBoot down.
- Rotate counterclockwise to move it up.
- Double-press the knob to save the expansion height.
- Single press to toggle between retraction and expansion.
- Long press (3 seconds) to reboot and initiate homing.
- Depending on your controller and signal setup:
- ON/HIGH signal: Expand
- OFF/LOW signal: Retract
Final Notes
Please make sure all screws and cables are securely fastened. To protect the dust boot during setup, consider removing the dust shoe while configuring and testing. Perform a dry run—cutting in the air without the dust shoe so you can observe the expansion and retraction operations before proceeding with full operation.
FAQ
What is the largest diameter bit I can use with AutoDustBoot?
Answer: The maximum recommended bit diameter is 2 inches. Using a bit larger than 2 inches may catch the brush and cause damage. If you need to use a larger bit, such as a 3-inch surfacing bit, you must remove the dust plate and mill without it. While this setup won’t be as effective as when the brush is attached, it should still capture most of the airborne dust.
